 * I’ve been wondering around if this is possible and couldn’t find a good solution
   so far.
 * Is it possible to have the database of a wordpress site running on a different
   server than the where the files are hosted?
 * I would need that..

 * Yes, it’s possible but you’ll need to configure the database settings so that
   it accepts connections from other servers.

 * And how would this work?
 * Is it in the PHP configuration?
 * I had difficulties to find out

 * Still have no answer on this.
 * How do I configurate wordpress that it can access an external database?

 * Kindly check your wp-config.php file located under base directory of your wordpress.
   The configuration is there.

 * Thanks for your reply, but my question was how do I have to configurate the file
   to access. I do know the config file and it says local host there

 * Kindly use your mysql host server url there, it will work.

 * > it will work
 * Not necessarily. As **Senff** indicated, the remote mysql server must be configured
   to accept external connections. Google _mysql+remote_ and you’ll find lots of
   advice.

 * Yes, that’s true, that’s why I told mysql host server.

 * Sure, but without trying to split hairs, your answer intimated that all the OP
   had to do was enter the remote mysql server into the wp-config.php file and it
   would work. That’s only the case if the remote server has been properly configured
   as well.
