[resolved] related posts and priced from (7 posts)

    Why do proudcts with variations not show the priced from and $$ in the related posts and the add to cart single prices do. I thought all related products were showing the priced from information in the 2.9.1 version at one time. But if so,it has stopped for variation products.

    What has to be done with css or settings to make all related products show the priced from information

    Hi @flyfisher842,

    I hope you are well today and thank you for your question.

    You can achieve this by making the following changes in the below MarketPress plugin file.

    MarketPress plugin file:
    wordpress-ecommerce\marketpress-includes\template-functions.php

    Make the following change in the above plugin file on line number 328

    Before Editing:

    $output .= $layout_type == 'grid' ? _mp_products_html_grid($related_query) : _mp_products_html_list($related_query);

    After Editing:

    $output .= $layout_type == 'grid' ? _mp_products_html_grid($related_query, 'single', $product->ID) : _mp_products_html_list($related_query);

    Make the following change in the above plugin file on line number 1717

    Before Editing:

    function _mp_products_html_grid($custom_query) {

    After Editing:

    function _mp_products_html_grid($custom_query, $context = 'list', $post_id = NULL ) {

    Make the following change in the above plugin file on line number 1720

    Before Editing:
    Blank line

    After Editing:

    $post_id = ( NULL === $post_id ) ? $post->ID : $post_id;

    Make the following change in the above plugin file on line number 1760

    Before Editing:

    ' . mp_buy_button(false, 'list', $post->ID) . '

    After Editing:

    ' . mp_buy_button(false, $context, $post_id) . '

    Note: You are making changes in the plugin file and these changes will be overwritten and lost when you update the plugin and you will have to make these again after plugin updation.

    Best Regards,

    Thanks for the reply. I will give it a try. When the category pages are shown the priced from is there. It only disappears on the in the individual product pages. Would be nice if your fix was made a part of the plugin update so priced from showed in related products period. And was styled so there was less space between priced from and choose option box. It looks to me like the choose option box height could be made the same size as add to cart if choose option was on one line. I assume this is CSS styling. I will see if I can find that.

    Lastly is there a way to control how much text is displayed in the related description box or better yet, show now text and just images with prices.

    Hi @flyfisher842,

    Thanks for your reply. The plugin doesn't include the variation price in all places, typically to save a bit of space in some layouts. Thus this isn't planned as an inclusion in the plugin directly, not currently.

    We'll be happy to assist with the spacing. As we'd need to see it in use with your theme/configuration, could you please provide a link for reference?

    I'm sure we could sort that text concern similarly as well.

    Looking forward to your reply. :)

    Cheers,
    David

    Hi David,
    Thanks for reply. The spacing issue is somewhat dependent on the theme. The link below is for twentyten. Portfolio WordPress Theme, socute free, virtue and weaver II are all a bit better at the spacing but still have the crowding issue sometimes at the bottom of the excerpt when that option is on. Weaver II shows two images for the first product on a category page or an individual page but that may be a theme setting for featured image. This may be wrong but I figured if the spacing was fixed in twentyten which is a rather small width theme, it would be better in other responsive type themes.

    This is a good category to look at.
    http://www.fly-fishing-colorado.com/shopcarts/store/products/category/floatants/ I am running show excerpts on. But in this category have very few actual excerpts in the excerpt field. From what I can see is the plugin uses an actual excerpt if one is available and uses so many words in the description if not. (A nice option would be to be able to set the number of words from the dashboard in presentations.) Alternatively I could go thru all my products and put something into the excerpt field or turn off that setting.

    If you take a look around at some of the other category pages and some individual products, you can get a good idea about the spacing of Priced From > the label box when excerpts are turned on. Floatants is a good one to look at first.

    RE suggested fix by wpdev member. It did not work. All buttons became add to cart even if the product had options and all add to cart buttons pointed to one product Silly Jelly which was added to the cart no matter which product button was pushed.

    Hi @flyfisher842,

    Thanks for your replies and just to clarify, the plugin doesn't actually present variation pricing in category pages, as you see here:
    http://www.fly-fishing-colorado.com/shopcarts/store/products/category/floatants/

    It's designed specifically to display those variation prices on the product pages themselves, where users could easily select a variation option then add to cart. I also don't recall the plugin working differently than that in the past.

    To be sure I understand though, could you please verify that's what you were trying to achieve? Getting the price variations to show up in category and related listings?

    Also, you could use the following plugin to customize excerpt length:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/advanced-excerpt/

    Or you could hide excerpts with some custom css:

    div.mp_product_detail .mp_excerpt { display: none; }

    That could be added to your theme's style.css file or through a plugin like so: http://wordpress.org/plugins/imporved-simpler-css/

    Perhaps that'll take care of those other concerns?

    Looking forward to your reply. :)

    Cheers,
    David
