Support » Plugin: The Events Calendar » “Related events” for reoccurring events oddity

We have a weekly repeating event with default content. As we get information about the specific event we break that out of the sequence and edit it specifically.

On the single page listing of the now broken out event the related events shown are all part of the original sequence but far into the future (e.g., April 2019). This should be displaying events closer in time and not necessarily part of the original repeating event.

    Am I missing something obvious?

    Good morning @mghile,

First off, I would like to apologize for the delay answering.
We are currently experiencing a higher level of requests than usual.

Please rest assured that we are working hard at correcting this situation.
We appreciate your patience while we try to normalize things.

Secondly, it looks like you are a the Events Calendar Pro license owner.
If so, I would recommend using our premium forums for faster support: https://theeventscalendar.com/support-forums/

I am wondering if you did not hit the “Edit upcoming” button on this one.
You can read all about it here: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/pro-recurring-events/

    Best regards,

    Geoff B.

Yes, I am a Pro user but since we got a not for profit discount we cannot use the premium support forms.

The “Edit upcoming” button works only for changing all of the future events. Breaking it out from the series makes it a separate post.

Some how the related vents for an event this week are in April, March, and September of 2018. See this link https://ethicalstl.org/event/platform-main-sunday-meeting-2017-08-20/

Since this event occurs every week (even when breaking out the individual event) why it has related events in 2018 is beyond me.

    Hi @mghile,

Thanks for following up to confirm! Per the terms and conditions of our Nonprofit Partnership Program, we are unable to provide support for users of our nonprofit licenses except in cases of legitimate bugs. This issue appears to be related to the programmed behavior of the “related events” function and doesn’t constitute a bug.

If you’d like to adjust the behavior of the “related events” function on your single event pages, you can find the code for the original function tribe_get_related_posts() at /wp-content/plugins/events-calendar-pro/src/functions/template-tags/general.php. Simply duplicate this function into your theme’s functions.php file, then create a new single event template following the instructions in our Themer’s Guide and reference your new function in this template. Our Themer’s Guide is linked below if you’d like to learn more:

    https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/themers-guide/

I hope that helps to get you started here! Thanks again for reaching out, and best of luck getting things set up on your site! 🙂
