 * My image upload isn’t working and one solution that’s been suggested is to reinstall
   wordpress.
 * I called my server and was not at all confident in what they told me to do, as
   they themselves didn’t seem too confident.
 * I was wondering if someone here could direct me as to what to do. Is reinstalling
   something I can do by just uploading the wordpress files to my old site? Will
   this leave all my plugins, settings, and everything else still intact?
 * Also, I just read up on the [tools upgrade subpanel](http://codex.wordpress.org/Tools_Upgrade_SubPanel).
   Is this one way to reinstall the complete wordpress software, or is it only some
   kind of partial install?

 * I have run into issues with my uploader not working after upgrading as well.
   When you click on the image upload button, see if there’s another option, such
   as the “Browser Uploader”, you can use.
 * Reinstalling WordPress probably won’t fix the problem, but I suppose I could
   be wrong.
 * You sound like you don’t really know how to upgrade or install WordPress. If
   you attempt this, please please please create a full backup of your website.
 * Backup both your WordPress files in your hosting account AND your database.
 * The Upgrade Tool from within your Dashboard you could say is a partial install
   because it doesn’t create a new database and all that; it (basically) just installs
   all the WordPress files except for the wp-content directory and does not erase
   your wp-config.php file.
 * It’s doubtful that would help.

 * Hi,
 * If you can not able to upload the image then provide the exact error message
   rather then going to reupload the wordpress. Also assign 766 recursive permissions
   wp-content directory and disable all the plugins would resolve your problem.
 * Thanks,

 * fifthhouse,
 * Not confident that a reinstall will correct the issue, however a reinstall is
   a simple matter. Download the latest WordPress release then remove/delete the
   wp-content folder from the downloaded folder (Not from the server). What you
   want is to preserve the wp-content because it contains all of your plugin, images
   and theme files. The re-upload everything else. To be safe please read through
   the upgrade instructions as well.

 * Thanks for your responses everyone. A few notes below:
 * WpBlogHost, one note of clarification: my problems with image uploading didn’t
   start after an upgrade. It’s a fairly new install and the first time I tried
   to upload an image it didn’t work.
 * doc4, The reason I was wondering about reinstalling wordpress as a solution is
   from [this post](http://wordpress.org/support/topic/316270?replies=3) where this
   was suggested.
 * Shane, I don’t get an error message. What happens is that the uploader will take
   a moment as if it was uploading, and then in the upload window the name of the
   image I tried to upload will appear, but not the image. There is no image to
   put in the post but in my media manager a the name will appear there also. When
   I check the files on my server the image isn’t there.
 * I’ll wait a little longer to see what kind of response comes in, and then I’ll
   try the reinstall without the wp-content folder, as you suggested Shane.
 * Oh yeah, I have backed up both my entire server account files with data base,
   and my wordpress site.

 * [@fifthhouse](https://wordpress.org/support/users/fifthhouse/) — I am experiencing
   the same issue now – broken image appears when I upload any type of image file.
   Very frustrating because it was totally out of the blue.
 * Tried numerous solutions but nothing has worked.
 * Did you ever resolve this issue? If so, how?
