• Hello,

I hope someone can help me. The other day I accidentally deleted my wp-admin and wp-includes files. Since then I have transferred new ones using filezila, in hopes my site would be back up and running. For some reason it is not working. Godaddy will not help me with it, and say its wordpress problem. I think my problem is that I do not have it arranged right into the root or whatever. I am stupid when it comes to this. I just want my site back and not to lose all my content. If anyone can help me get it back up I would greatly appreciate it. Godaddy wants 150$ to restore, but that is a rip off. I will even pay someone for their help. If they could just look at why it is not working.

I am willing to reinstall wordpress but I really want to keep my content. I have no backups (i dont think) and so any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

Just as a precaution, take a backup of all your files and folders in the WordPress installation directory, so that just in case you overwrite or delete anything you weren’t supposed to, you’ll be able to restore it quickly.

As you stated, delete everything except the following file and directory:

    wp-config.php file
    wp-content directory

Then when you re-upload the WordPress installation files, don’t upload these again:

    wp-config.php file
    wp-content directory

where is wp-config.php located so I make sure not to delete it

It’s in WordPress’ root directory. The same directory as the wp-load.php file.

Helpful information for another person with the same problem (me). Thank you. What if the only back-up of your old files is in a .sql file (at least I think this is a back-up of my files)? Is there a way to extract the above mentioned files from this database?

I have the same issue. I did exactly as you described in the email trail above, but when I attempt to go to anything beyond the dashboard, I get nothing but a white screen.

    What do I do now?

Now that I’m done flipping out…

I read on another forum that said to rename the “plugins” folder because it, for some reason, is causing some problem. They didn’t explain why, but I was desperate.

I changed my “plugins” folder to “plugins11” (I just picked something simple). This allowed me to review every part of my site.

I then downloaded my “plugins11” folder, so I didn’t lose a couple of the premium plugins I purchased, and uploaded the new plugins folder from a fresh 3.0.5 download.

I still couldn’t see any of my public pages beyond the homepage, so I changed my permalinks back to default. I figured I could deal with that issue later. Now I can see everything.

Thank you all for your info! I’m back on track!

I have a similar issue. The theme is well installed and looks great. But the content on pages and post do not appear when you preview the website. You can only see them in the dash board. Can anyone help?
