    Hi Support Team,

When a new user tries to register, there is an error appears at the username field.

“This username is invalid because it uses illegal characters”

When I only enter numbers, it then appears to work. How come letters are not allowed as a username?

Also why is there a strange format on the registration page. For example the random bullet point under the Nickname field. Please can you help me with this.

This is only the second Plugin I have downloaded to my WordPress after WPBakery Visual Composer.

So I dont think there is a conflict issue.

Please can you advise me with this problem.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

  • Hi,

You should be able to register users using letters inside the username. Are you using uppercase letters? Did you tried using only lowercase letters? Can you give me an example of a username that is not accepted by the field?

Is your WordPress setup to be a MultiSite?

Regarding the second issue, can you go to your Registration page and check if the [wppb-register] shortcode is between any html tags? Also can you use the Text mode when adding the shortcode inside the page and not Visual or WPBakery Visual Composer (Page Builder)?

    Hi

Thanks for getting back to me.

I realise now that it is upper case characters that are not accepted in this field. Is this normal?

Regarding the second issue, I checked the the Load Profile Builder’s own CSS file in the front-end from Profile Builder -> General Settings and the formatting issue was resolved.

Yes it is a multisite set-up. I think I will have to uninstall this setting because it is impacting different areas. For example the “anyone can register” checkbox and the “the default user role” option in Settings – General Screen isnt appearing. I think it is because I am on a multi-site setting. I need to be able to set a default user role for new users on my site. Could I get your thoughts on this please?

    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

Since you setup your WordPress to be a MultiSite your are not allowed to use uppercase letters inside the username field, since the username is also used as the subdomain. Maybe this article will help you with the uppercase restrictions.

I am glad you managed to fix the .css issue.

Since you are using a WordPress MultiSite install, to set if anyone can register, you will need to login as SuperAdmin -> Go to My Sites -> Network Admin -> Settings -> Network Settings -> Registration Settings -> Allow new registrations.

To set the default role of each of your subdomains you will need to login as SuperAdmin -> Go to My Sites -> Network Admin -> Sites -> Edit your subdomain -> Settings -> Default Role. You will need to type the default role using lowercase letters and Save Changes. Also here you will be able to set the “Users Can Register” option for this specific subdomain.

Let me know if this information helped you.

    Hi Teodor,

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

I uninstalled the multisite option. And now I can use cap letters.

I dont think I really need the multisite option anyway. So its better to uninstall it.

    Thanks,
    Andrew
