Registration Passwords Not Sent, Reset Fails

  • When ever a user registers, they get the message on the screen that a password will be sent to them at the E-Mail address entered. However, the E-Mail is not being sent.

    If a user tries to retrieve/reset their password, they get:

    500 – Internal server error.
    There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

    I most likely didn’t set something in the configuration correctly (I’m new to WordPress), but can’t find anything.

    Suggestions on what to change or where to look?

    Check your .htaccess file to see if it looks ok.

    And also if you are using cpanel, please check the Error log as well.

    WordPress is provided as a service through my hosting provider.

    I’ve gone through the directories for the application, but can’t find a .htaccess file.

    Under htdocs, I also have wp-admin, wp-content and wp-includes.

    I’m not using cpanel.

    (To say that I’m new to both WordPress and php would be a gross understatement. 😉 )

    It’s hard to say what the problem would be with 500 Internet error.

    Would you be able to ask your hosting company to enable the error log?
    Then make the error again and see what the error is (the error log will give you more details about the error).
