Support » Plugin: BuddyPress Registration Options » Registration Message saying “check your email” instead of “wait for approval”

In BP Registration Options, I have “Moderate New Users” checked off.

But when a person registers, instead of being told to wait for approval, they see the following message:

CHECK YOUR EMAIL TO ACTIVATE YOUR ACCOUNT!
You have successfully created your account! To begin using this site you will need to activate your account via the email we have just sent to your address.

Then there is no email on their end. Instead the admin gets an email to approve a new user, and once admin approves them (which could take a while) then they get an email saying their approved.

On the plugin page images, it shows that there is a red box with a message in it saying they need to be approved. I’m not seeing this.

    Please help!

    Thank you 🙂

The site is http://www.charlottemasoneduction.org if you want to test it.

I edited the message temporarily as a solution, but would like it to function as it’s supposed to.

    Thanks.

    Good day @livingcminca

The process is actually a multi-part situation and has some areas that aren’t covered by our plugin.

The way the plugin works is that the user signs up, and activates their account. Once that is done, we append some user meta to that new user to mark them as “needing approval”.

Now, here’s where people tend to get confused. The plugin isn’t intended to block access to the site as a whole. It is just meant to handle and facilitate the BuddyPress and bbPress areas. If you have your comments open for blog posts, the user isn’t going to be prevented from going and leaving a comment while logged in. If you have an ecommerce section that encourages creating a user account, the plugin isn’t going to prevent them from going shopping. However, once they try to venture into the BP/bbP areas, then they’d either be prevented from interacting but can still see, or they would be prevented from seeing anything. The “private network” setting is what handles that part. That’ll redirect them to their user profile until approved. If they’re just required to be approved, then they can observe but we hide, to the best of or abilities, the parts that allow interaction like messages and adding friends, etc.

The big red boxes you see in the screenshot would only be showing up for when the private network setting is used.

In short, the plugin relies on the user being created in the database so we can flag them as pending, before they can use utilize all of the BuddyPress/bbPress areas, while the rest of the site is still fully open with their new user.
