Support » Fixing WordPress » Registered users don’t have subscription options

  • Hi…last night I found and installed your plugin and it seems really cool and very configurable.

Today I had a test user try signing up. She went to the subscribe page, clicked the link there to visit her profile, but instead of being taken to the subscription options, she was taken to the basic profile page (first name, last name, biography, etc.)

I had her refresh and she even tried a different browser with the same results.

What are we doing wrong? When I click the link logged in as admin, I get taken right to the page with the subscription options, it works fine for me. Do I need to do something to my already-registered users before they can see their subscription options?

    Chris

  • What version of WordPress and the plugin are you using?

You shouldn’t need to do anything to existing users for the pages to appear. The only thing I can think of is there may be another plugin running that tinkers with the admin menus (like a drop down plugin) that is messing up the links.

As a final try, have you tried hand typing in the URL to the admin subscribe page? If so, does that work?

    All right, let’s see.

    I’m running WordPress version 2.2.
I’m running whatever version of Subscribe2 was available three days ago…ummmm…oh, 2.3.6.
My site is http://chris86.com/RT if looking at it’ll help clear things up.

The link that a registered user gets for subscribing is:

    http://chris86.com/RT/wp-admin/profile.php?page=subscribe2/subscribe2.php

But the page that actually comes up is:

    http://chris86.com/RT/wp-admin/admin.php?page=../../../phpbb2/wp-united/wpu-plugin.php

That doesn’t look right, does it? Copying the link from the subscribe page and pasting it in the address bar redirects to the same odd link as well.

When I click on the same link logged in as myself (as administrator), the page that comes up is:

    http://chris86.com/RT/wp-admin/users.php?page=subscribe2/subscribe2.php

, so in that case the link doesn’t get changed.

The only plugins I’m running are:
    • A different theme called Black Letterhead
    • Something called CountPost (to add page views to each entry)
    • A sidebar widget to count down various events
    • A plugin to change the appearance of comments called SexyComments
    • My WordPress is integrated with my phpbb2 messageboard via a product called WP-united (so that all the logins for users can be the same for both the messageboard and the weblog)

So, come to think of it, maybe there’s a lot going on, but I’d really like to make this work, I’d love to send out notices whenever I write a new post, and subscribe2 seems to be the best plugin out there for this.

Thanks for taking the time to help me out.

    Chris

Any ideas? What should I try?

    Thanks,
    Chris

Anyone out there? Is there somewhere else I should ask this question?

Have you considered asking the plugin’s author?

Actually, based on the goofy link you mentioned earlier and

    • My WordPress is integrated with my phpbb2 messageboard via a product called WP-united (so that all the logins for users can be the same for both the messageboard and the weblog)

What happens after you disable that phpbb plugin?

If the link doesn’t work when clicked and also gets messed up when you type it in have you looked at your mod_rewrite rules?

check out your .htaccess file, I think it must be something in there that’s re-writing your links.
