    Hi Mattyrob!

First, thanks for a great plugin.

    Now here’s the situation:
    – All users are registered subscriber (none public)
    – Notification per post is set to cat 3,4,15
    – s2_format and s2_subscribed is set on per user basis

But a register user complaint that he has been receiving notification for posts in a category (cat4) that he didn’t subscribed. He mentioned that it started about a couple of weeks go. I didn’t manage to test this if this is true for other user (will do later)

Here’s an extract of this user s2 meta:
    s2_format html_excerpt
    s2_autosub no
    s2_cat4 4
    s2_cat3 3
    s2_cat15 15
    s2_subscribed 15

From the s2_subscribed string, he’s only subscribed to cat15.
But he’s been getting emails for posts in cat4 as well.

Do you have any idea why?

FYI, all our posts are posted in single category only.

  • Also to add, the user used to be getting emails from cat4 but has since unsubscribed from that category almost a year ago.

Update: Seems that the user received notification for posts in cat3 as well (he didn’t even subscribe to this category ever).

For the details you have posted above it’s clear to me that this persons subscription information is corrupted if that is the complete set.

The s2_subscribed key is indicating they are only subscribed to category 15 but the s2_cat(integer) keys are indicating they are subscribed to category 15, 3 and 4.

To fix your issues for this user you need to delete from the database the s2_cat4 and s2_cat3 keys and their values (just delete the entire row in the usermeta database table). I’d suggest you also check all of you other user accounts too.

Will delete the two records and monitor it tomorrow when we publish our daily posts.

On a related note, if admin changes a registered user settings and un-check a category, shouldn’t the corresponding s2_cat automatically deleted from the table as well?

Yes, if admin makes changes then they should be applied just as if the user had do it themselves.

    Dear Mattyrob

Just to revert back that it is just like you said.
Deleted cat3 and cat4 and the email stopped.

Will do a thorough check on all users over the weekend.

    So thanks for your help!

That’s good news, I hope it was just a one off glitch in the database but well worth checking out anyway.
