register_http_request_failed

Trying to connect to wordpress to fully access Jetpack plugin andi get this error message:

Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: register_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host.
What can I do to resolve this?
Is this a firewall issue or do I need to apply any sort of coding? I am not a coder.
I am using a localhost.
