[resolved] Register new subsite "as seen on buddypress.org" (5 posts)

    I think this is tricky.

You know buddypress. Buddypress brings a bunch of functionalities and features, focusing people. A new user can register for a blog and this will be hosted with the domain http://newuserblog.sitename.com.

My vision – In a WordPress multisite a new user can register a subsite (not a buddypress blog, without the buddypress plugin) with pre-defined custom post types/taxonomies, its own database tables and its own subdomain (like a country or a city).
The domain should look like http://newsubsite.sitename.com

(With this new subsite registration plugins and themes should be activated depending on the membership/package. So I call it a "buddypress for non-peoples with wordpress structure")

Has anyone a idea for a existing plugin? Or do I have to develop one by myself?

    Thanks for a hint.

  2. BuddyPress has nothing to do with registering for blogs. BuddyPress lets you add in groups and forums :) It's related, similar, but different. If BuddyPress is adding in blogs as well then what you actually have is a Multisite with BuddyPress.

If you only want blogs, then you have Multisite au natural. And yes, subdomains are a native aspect of Multisite. They have their own DB tables as well, however they share a user table.

There are existing plugins to manage Multisite account generations (and charge for them). You just have to search for them.

    Thanks, Mika.

90% of your informations are known, the last paragraph is interesting.

You may know the registering process on wordpress.com for an own domain like subdomain.wordpress.com.
Do you know a plugin for process registering a new subsite with an user generated subdomain hosted in an wpmu?
