# Register before reply

 * Is there any setting I can change that will prevent people who are not registered
   on my blog from posting comments? I’ve posted several “think” pieces on my blog,
   and almost all of the commentary has either been English spam, Russian spam, 
   or attempts at flaming me.

 * If the spam is getting to you, you might have a look at [Akismet](http://akismet.com).
   If you really want to force people to register, you can do that too – have a 
   look at the settings->discussions page (on your dashboard sidebar), and check
   the box that says “Users must be registered and logged in to comment”.
 * Of course, you’ll also want to make sure registration is open to everyone (Settings-
   >General, “Anyone can register”).

 * Thanks. I’ve also found a couple of plugins that help, too.
