    Hi,

We use Google adwords to drive traffic to our site But i noticed when an order comes through the referral for the transaction is the payment gateway address rather than Google adwords. The payment processors do leave the site and come back as they are external such as papal.

Is there a way to fix this ? as we would like to track what orders come from where.

    Thanks

    Hi @pbgc,

Thank you for writing to us!

The issue is about the “payment referral” that is a very known issue.

    Reason :

We would like you to learn that Google Analytics starts a new session whenever a user comes to the site from a traffic source different than the previous one (and when it’s not a direct visit), even if the previous session hasn’t expired.

Send Users to the payment gateway one way or another and then he’s sent back to your store after a successful transaction. When the user arrives at the site from the gateway the HTTP headers contain referrer information saying that the visitor is coming from another hostname.

So Google Analytics will automatically set “Source/Medium” as “Payment Method/referral”.

    Solution :

To stop getting the Payment domain to be attributed as the “Source”, you need to include the payment portal urls in the Referral Exclusion list.

Click here to see how to do Payment Gateway Referral Exclusions. Similarly, you can exclude others as well.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

Will excluding the payment gateway on Google Analytics then change the transaction referral to the correct source ? e.g. Google Ads or Google Organic ?

    Thanks

    Hi,

After excluding the payment gateway on GA, all will handle by GA itself.
