Reducing menu items width or padding
-
Hello there guys,
I need some help/suggestion. I need menu items to have a smaller width or padding, because I have too many large menu voices (I know they should not be so long, but this is how they were requested) and my menu is in two lines. What shall I better do to solve my problem? If menu voices could be in two lines, this would surely help…. Thanks in advance
Cheers

Nobody can help? 🙁
Enrico,
It is not clear to me what you want. Could you give the site address? I may be able to see what you want to do.
Regards,
StilmanSure, here is the link:
As you can see, the menu is in two raws for the fact menu “items” are too long. For example I’d like “Bio economia e risparmio economico” to be in two raws etc…. Could you please help?
Thanks in advance
Cheers

Ciao, Enrico!
At first I didn’t understand what you meant by “raws” and “voices.” But I visited your website and I think I know the problem you’re describing. (I’m also using Twenty-Seventeen for one of my WordPress sites, so I was able to test the solution myself.) You want your menu items, that have too many characters on each *tab*, to be divided into two lines instead of one for each tab. This way, the extra characters won’t force your whole menu to expand into a second row.
Though I don’t claim to be a WordPress expert, here’s your simple solution:
Go into your menus section, either by going through Appearance > Customizing > Menus > (menu name); or by going through Dashboard > Appearance > Menus
Now click on the menu (or “Menu Structure”) tab arrow, as if you were renaming your menu item. Where it says “Bio economia e risparmio economico” in the box, change it to “Bio economia e <br/>risparmio economico”. Then save your update. You don’t change your post or page, just this menu item name.
This is basically the html line-break tag <br/>, but it works to make two lines you need for each tab.
Rissie
It looks as though Rissie has given you a good solution. (I have been very busy since you sent me the site address. Days away from the computer.)
The solution I was contemplating was placing the longer titles in sub-items in the menu. Using a connected single word could limit the size of the top menu. For instance “Bio economia e risparmio economico” could possibly be a sub-item to “Estetica” and so forth.
I apologise for the tardiness of my reply. But now I hope you have two solutions.
Hello @missrissie and @stilman-davis,
thanks a lot for the help! I was thinking more of a css modification to keep the menu responsive, but make its *tabs* less wide than they are, to “oblidge” items (words) to automatically split in two raws. I guess your trick would do the job; I’ll try it out!
Sorry for my bad explanation, I just couldn’t find the right words in English……Hey @stilman-davis, no need to apologize, I appreciate your help, no matter if it came a little later….
Thanks again
Ciao
Enrico
