Ah. The conversion script only allows to run when redirection to conversion script is enabled. I will disable that check for Nginx. Until then, simply check the “Enable redirection to converter?” checkbox in the “Redirection rules” section
This has been fixed in the development branch. It will be part of next update (0.14.22)

@mixar: I’d like to credit you in the release notes for reporting this. When doing this, I usually write the country the person is from. I like the fact that people all around the world are participating in making this plugin better 🙂
So, are you ok with being credited, and are you willing to reveal the country of your residence for this purpose?

Thanks @roselldk now all works fine on Nginx.
Hello @roselldk, after installing the latest version 0.17.2 and configuring it as shown here, I’m seeing some WebP images, however the main site PNG logo is broken. Trying to pull up the logo PNG directly, I get this message Validation failed for settings: Redirection to conversion script is not enabled
which led me to this thread. I don’t see any WebP Express settings related to Redirection or “Enable redirection to converter”. Any suggestions on how to deal with this? Thank you.
We are running into this issue on WPEngine. We gave support the Nginx rules and followed the settings on the docs and the webp functionality is working correctly, but any non-webp files that might be served in CSS files is resulting in an error:
Validation failed for settings: Redirection to conversion script is not enabled
It would be helpful if anyone figured out a way to combat this on WPEngine, please.
Ok, everyone. If you are on WPEngine, the WebP Express documentation they had was a little outdated. Due to changes in the plugin code, you cannot use “CDN Friendly” mode if you want your WPEngine site on Nginx to serve non-webp images (like those that might be referenced in CSS files) without an error message.
To make it work on WPEngine, follow the same setup and send Nginx rules to support to add to your config, but then use “Varied image responses” mode instead. After you change the mode there will be a “Redirection rules” section now on the settings page. Make sure that “Enable redirection to converter” is checked off. Clear your cache and it should work.
