Support » Plugin: Redirection » Redirection of .pdf links not working

  • I’m trying to redirect several .pdf links that got indexed by Google when they were part of a paid program. They are removed now but the redirection isn’t working. It didn’t work even before I deleted the file too.

Its a Multisite install, but not network activated. The rest of the links work, just not the pdfs.

    Anything I should try?

  • Hi Karissa, confirmed! Wanted to test the hypothesis, that PDFs are not working – and they don’t. Same with a .jpg file. I tried exact match as well as regular expression.

Maybe files in directories “/wp-content” or “/uploads” are excluded from redirection?

Will try to check this out ..

You can get it to work by deleting the old PDF, not ideal but hopefully the developer can look into this.

I’m having the same problem, but deleting the old PDF didn’t work. We’re running multisite with it network activated.

Hey folks, I just ran across this post, and was experiencing the exact same problem. Other pages were redirecting just fine, but PDFs or other files were unaffected.

This totally makes sense. When you request a file the server just loads the file. It doesn’t run PHP or WordPress at all, so the plugin has no chance to intercede. It is going to have to be a change that you make with the server to allow WordPress to hop in there and do the redirect. I am not sure what that change is, but I contacted my host, WPEngine, and they were able to make a server configuration change to allow the PDF redirects to work.
