Redirecting to a post page

I’m using a theme that starts the visitor off on a page with a list of the posts. I would like the site to automatically direct the visitor to a specific post first. Efforts to redirect using the Redirection plug-in and manually adding a 301 Redirect to .htaccess have been unsuccessful.

I want to automatically redirect from the root /
to
/home

Where ‘/home” is the slug of a specific post.
Any suggestions?
