'Redirect podcast feed to new URL' time limit too short?

SSP has been a welcome change from the bloated plugins I’ve tested in the past – well done!
On the feature that allows changing the podcast URL. It says that after 48 hours the feed redirect will be permanent. I assume this means the old feed URL will no longer work at that point? What concerns me is the brief window for other services and players to make the change. What if you podcast every two weeks or others just don’t download right away?
I know iTunes recommends leaving the old URL up for 4 weeks. Can you address this, or perhaps give me a hint as to where in the code I could change this? I have to move the URL of a podcast very soon and just want to make sure we don’t lose anyone.
Along these lines, does SSP also add the iTunes “new URL” tag into the feed as well as use a 301 redirect?
