redirect loop on wp-login.php

    Hi !

    I was trying to resolve a memory 1010 issue that cropped up w/ my upgrade to 3.3.1 upon uploading pictures into the media library, and gave a tech at my host (hostgator) my login – after I changed it.

    He couldn’t login and either I got bumped out or logged out and then couldn’t get back in.

    I don’t get an error message – It just goes into a redirect back to the login page. Also, ‘shake it’ works when I try to give it my email address to retrieve lost password. I (and my host) have checked the user.php and I reset the password on the backend, and it’s all correct as is the email.

    It is communicating w/ the database as I do get an error (that shakes) that says password not valid or something (it is).

    So another tech, removed the 3.3.1 and downgraded it, as we thought maybe that had something to do with it and it could remove the memory 1010 bug at the same time.

    But, somehow it removed my GPP theme and it’s one of the standard WP themes – http://www.birdiebreeze.com/birdiepix and as I cant login, I can make my site look like it should/did.

    To make matters worse, I can’t login to my other WP site http://www.birdiebreeze.com and have the crazy redirect loop there, too !!! and that wasn’t upgraded to 3.3.1 😛

    Ok…so then, I got this in the mail from one of the techs…

    ‘It looks as though the trouble may be with the .htaccess file. When it was renamed, the log in worked just fine. Furthermore, it impacts http://birdiebreeze.com/birdiepix/ because .htaccess is inherited. ‘

    SO, which/where is the .htaccess and is there one that could impact both my sites?

    Thanks, Birdie, for sharing your thoughts and your lovely site. I have yet to learn the nuts and bolts of web sites, which is why I chose WordPress as the platform for my blog site: http://islam-and-west.com/.

    I’m sorry I don’t know about the .htaccess that you are talking about. I wish I did. I wish you good luck.

    Who or which forum do you think can spot my access problem and help me get back into my site?

    I’ll copy and paste my .htaccess info here. There is a a blank one, and then one or two more .htaccess1 etc.

    I think what happened, is the 3.3.1 upgrade created an issue w/ memory related to .htaccess (it is suppose to have the 64mb memory line in it) and a tech was working on that. My 1st problem, was upon uploading pictures, it would hang during crunching…but…they would be in my media library, except not able to edit them for size, etc. and it would say “contains no data”. So, I was unable to use the pictures. After awhile, I got an error message re: out of memory 1010.

    So, that’s where this started.

    It seems that the upgrade created issues with the .htaccess file.

    I’ll post the contents of all the .htaccess files in there now.

    I need to get rid of all but one – I am sure.

    Anyway, I dont know if the login issue is also .htaccess related (probably). The techs checked all the files/folders and said everything looked sound.

    However, someone changed an ini file, so I’ll post that too.

    Ah, my other site http://www.birdiebreeze.com

    developed the same redirect looping issue as birdiepix.

    However….

    I don’t see a .htaccess file in it’s folder and I have show hidden folders ticked.

    Hmmm.

    I did do tests on birdiepix and tried adding birdiepix on lines 4 and 7 and they worked but didnt solve the login issue !!

    Also note that none of these have the very last line about memory allocation – the 64 MB one.

    and we did all that that the mod suggests at first re: plugins, change the theme, etc etc no go, just like Megan.

    Oh the ini file….yep, one of the techs changed that…let me get it

    Oh wait – these are really big files.

    There are 3 of them

    So to recap

    I upgraded to 3.3.1 from 3.3.0 and developed a memory issue w/ uploading pictures in the media gallery

    I contacted hostgator, and they went in the backpanel and then needed my login for WP. They said it didnt work, and I had changed the password before I gave them the temp one for them, so I logged out and tried to get in. Couldn’t get back in and ta da…discovered the login.php redirect loop.

    A few techs have been in there – and I changed the password from the backend and my email address is correct there, too – which the login.php rejects with a shake when I try to use it for ‘lost password’.

    So, login.php is talking to the database but isn’t recognizing my password/email there.

    Just redirects in a loop or gives the shakes.
