  • I read another forum after posting and followed a suggestion to rename my htaccess file. I did this and was able to a) see the login prompt and b) login.

What does this mean? do I need to replace or repair my htaccess file?

    Thank you.

    John.

Something you might try is creating a new, empty .htaccess file manually, and make sure it’s writable to WordPress. Go to your permalinks options in your dashboard and “refresh/re-save” your permalink structure, allowing WordPress to re-write the .htaccess file contents, and see if that changes the behavior.

    Clayton,

you are bang on the money. In fact I didn’t have to re-create the .htaccess file. when I performed the save that you suggested, WP re-created the .htaccess file for me.

    Thank you.

    John.

You’re welcome. Glad it was a quick fix!
