Support » Fixing WordPress » Redirect loop

I have two separate domains with this issue (technically three).

I transferred the core files of a site ( to my own server (dreamhost) and restored a backup of their database onto mine (also dreamhost). When their DNS from their domain changed and pointed to my server, the homepage throws a redirect loop, and when trying to log into the backend (both wp-admin and wp-login.php) when I submit, it just points back to wp-login.php (without telling me its a wrong password or anything).

Now, at first I thought it has something to do with an .htaccess file, which I found out I didn’t have. So I took one from another working wordpress install and the same thing happens. Then I searched around and saw that plugins might be doing the job. I removed all plugins to no avail.

Now, onto the other site. I installed wordpress to a test domain ( and got everything up and running (as it still is). I copied all the core files to the other domains folder ( and the database has remained the same (they’re both on my server). When changing the URI’s, the same exact redirect problems occur.

I need to have these properly moved over as soon as possible. Any help or knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • For anyone that lands on here:

I have Dreamhost as a hosting provider and the two sites that I worked on both had been told to ‘add www. to the domain’ under the domain settings in the dreamhost control panel.

I set it to leave it alone (www. and no www. will work) and the issue cleared up.

    Hope this helps!
