[resolved] Redirect from old non-Wordpress site to a new WordPress site (4 posts)

    I have just relaunched a website. The old site was created on Go Daddy's Website builder and I replaced it with a WordPress site. I used Redirects to take the urls and redirect them to new urls.

    It's not working. Will this plug-in work for an old site that was not a WordPress site?

    For instance, when I enter an old site url: http://epwservices.com/about.html, I get this in the from box, a hash tag: /http://epwservices.com/about.html.

    I can't get rid of it, the leading hash tag I mean.

    The sites address is http://www.epwservices.com

    You don't need to enter the full domain name of your old site. Only the part after the domain. So, if your old About page was here:
    you only need to enter:

    So, you'll get something like:

    /about.html => /about/

    If you are switching domain names, then you will need to look into adding code to forward traffic from your old domain to your new one.

    Check out this article.

    Of course, if you are going that far, you can just put your redirects into the htaccess file.
