Support » Plugin: Redirection » Redirect after permalink-part changed from text to number doesn’t work

  • Hello Guys!

    Problem:
If a permalink-part is changed from a text to a number, the 301-Redirect doesn’t work.

    Steps to reproduce:

    • Change Permalink-Strcture to “Tag and Name”
    • Create a post with the following title/permalink “Seven things i want to show you” (/2017/08/08/seven-things-i-want-to-show-you/)
    • Save Post
    • Change post permalink to “7-things-i-want-to-show-you” and save again
    • Open old link (/2017/08/08/seven-things-i-want-to-show-you/) and enjoy the 404-Page

    WP-Version: 4.8.1
    Plugin-Version: 2.6.6

Fresh WP-Install, no Plugins, default Twenty-Sixteen Worpdress-Theme without any modifications

Redirection doesn’t monitor changes to your permalinks structure. If you do change your permalink structure you’ll need to update any redirects as appropriate.

    Dear John Godley,

    thanks for the fast reply.

I have managed to revalidate the problem. Here is the new description:

If the plugin is not installed/activated, the redirection between “7-things-i-want-to-show-you” and “Seven things i want to show you” works without a problem in both directions.

If the plugin is activated, neither directions are redirected properly to the new URL and the 404 page is shown.

So this functionality is implemented in the WordPress core.
    Can you reproduce this problem?

When you change the URL of a post, WordPress creates it’s own redirect from the old one to the new one. Redirection disables this so it doesn’t cause any interference. You will then need to create the redirects again inside Redirection.
