It’s not a terrible idea at all, many of the best WordPress sites are built in-house or by the site owners themselves.
If you run into any problems, we’re always happy to help when we can. 🙂
What about consider business packages from WordPress? their support team is pretty good

We don’t sell anything like that here, we don’t sell anything at all. WordPress is provided for free, developed and supported entirely by volunteers.
If you do seek to hire someone, we recommend posting at https://jobs.wordpress.net/
Overall though, I still recommend building it out yourself, and if you run into any problems, we’re always happy to help when we can. 🙂
Thanks @macmanx James. Well, I’m having issues using the “staging” features of WPEngine and our build in general.
Is it a good idea to just start with a fresh install and then redirect our URL to the new install when it’s ready?
Also, when I need help, how should I group my questions in the forum? Start a new thread when I have a specific question or group them in one thread? (Does that make sense?)
Again, thanks!

I recommend getting in touch with WPEngine on that. We won’t be able to help with problem on their service, but their support is good.

Personally, I prefer to build new sites on subdomains, like new.example.com
and then move it move following this guide when it’s done: https://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress#Moving_Directories_On_Your_Existing_Server
I don’t know if that’s possible on WPEngine though, but I assume their staging environment is just an automated way to do all of that.

Yes, please start a new thread for each different question. Thanks for asking! 🙂
