I see the notorious red notification icon next to Woocommerce > payments in the sidebar. I have no idea why. I don’t see any message on the payments settings page:

    Any ideas? Thank you!

    Hi @cutu234,

I understand how puzzling it is to see that persistent red notification icon next to WooCommerce > Payments, especially when there’s no clear message on the settings page. No worries, I’ll help you get to the bottom of it.

Just to confirm, did this alert appear recently? Do you remember installing or updating any payment-related plugin shortly before it showed up?

When WooCommerce displays a red badge like this with a “1,” it typically means that one of your installed payment gateways needs attention — this could be due to incomplete setup, a required configuration step, or an unread notice specific to that gateway.

Please open the Payments tab again and double-check each gateway (like Stripe, Apple Pay, PayPal, etc.) to see if one of them displays a banner or setup prompt that might be easy to miss.

To assist you better, could you please:

    1. Share a screenshot of what you see when you open the Payments settings page using https://snipboard.io
    2. Send us your System Status Report by going to WooCommerce > Status > Get system report, pasting the content into https://pastebin.com, and sharing the link here.

Once we have that, we’ll help you identify what’s triggering the notification and how to clear it. Let’s see how it goes!

Thank you very much for the fast reply. To address your questions:

Yes, it appeared today. No updates, no installation of extensions or payment modules. I did absolutely nothing Woocommerce-related.

What do you mean by “double-check each gateway”? Would I have to open the settings page for each and every gateway? That’s not acceptable, since this page is really cluttered with gateways.

The settings payment settings page is HUGE, so be prepared! 🙂

    Here’s the status report.

    Hi @cutu234,

Thanks so much for sharing the screenshot — I really appreciate it!

To help us understand the issue more clearly, could you please temporarily switch your site language to English and re-share the screenshot of your Payments page using https://snipboard.io? That will make it easier for us to review all the gateway labels and identify any that may need attention.

From what I can see already, it looks like you have quite a large number of payment methods installed, many of which appear not fully set up or activated. That’s likely the reason you’re seeing the red notification icon — WooCommerce is alerting you that at least one of those gateways still needs configuration or review.

Out of curiosity, is there a particular reason you have so many gateways added to your site? If you’re not planning to use some of them, it might help to deactivate or uninstall the ones you don’t need — this can also help declutter the Payments page and make maintenance easier.

Lastly, could you also send us your System Status Report? You’ll find it under WooCommerce > Status > Get system report — please paste the contents into https://pastebin.com and share the link here.

Once we’ve reviewed that, we’ll help you pinpoint exactly what’s triggering the icon and how to resolve it. Looking forward to your update!

    Hi there,

the payment gateways are installed automatically. We use the standard Stripe plugin. This plugin alone installs tons of payment methods that we don’t really need. I would gladly remove them, but that’s not possible, I guess.

I’ve already pasted the status report in my last post:

    https://pastebin.com/bUfCWWqQ

Re-sharing the screenshots in english is a lot to ask. This is really time-consuming and tedious.

Well, I took a shortcut and removed all admin notices directly in the database:

    DELETE FROM wp_options WHERE option_name LIKE '%woocommerce_admin_%';

I have no idea why the built-in tools in Woocommerce > settings did not do the trick.

    Hi there,

Thank you for the update and for sharing the system status report earlier — I really appreciate the details.

Since the Stripe plugin installs multiple payment gateways, I’m guessing the red notification icon often appears if any of them are still present but not fully configured.

I understand your frustration and appreciate the workaround you applied using the database cleanup. That likely cleared the stored admin notices tied to those unused gateways.

If the issue doesn’t return, then your solution worked for now. But if it comes back, I would suggest — for testing purposes — to please deactivate the Stripe plugin and check if the red notice still appears. If the red notice disappears after deactivating the plugin, that would indicate there’s likely a setting or payment method within Stripe that’s not fully configured and is triggering the alert.

Thanks you for your patience and resourcefulness.

Same problem here (NO Stripe). I checked all payment providers, there is no notification, but the red 1 badge persists. Any ideas how to fix this?

What about the method in my last post? Did you try it?

    Hi @newshop,

We asked you to open a new forum topic because, according to the WordPress.org forum guidelines for support, each user’s setup can be different — even when the symptoms seem similar. Opening a separate topic ensures we can focus on your specific configuration and troubleshoot more effectively without confusion from unrelated setups.

While @cutu234’s suggestion of disabling all WooCommerce admin notices directly in the database may temporarily remove the red dot, this approach is not advisable because it does not resolve the underlying issue that triggered the notice in the first place.

When there’s a notice on a Payment menu item (or any other WooCommerce menu item) showing a red dot, it usually indicates that something is incomplete or requires your attention — for example, a payment method or option needing setup completion. The best way to test this is to temporarily deactivate all payment-related plugins and check if the red dot still appears. If it disappears, you can then reactivate the plugins one at a time, checking after each activation to see which one causes the red dot to return. This process will help identify exactly which plugin or payment method setup is incomplete.

Let us know what you find after testing so we can help you take the next steps.

I absolutely agree with you. But frankly, it is a pretty common problem with Woocommerce (I don’t blame Woocommerce or any other plugin). Fixing the underlying problem can be almost impossible, and is very often extremely time-consuming. I have often seen that dismissing a message wasn’t properly stored in the database. The message wasn’t shown again, but the red dot was still there. Good luck finding the underlying issue! 🙂 Honestly, I have NEVER found a “proper” cause for this kind of issue. This is why I gladly take the shortcut and remove it directly in the database.
