Recovery of original 1.5.2 version after failed upgrade to 2.2.1 (3 posts)

    Hello all,

I should have known that I had to upgrade first to 2.0, but at the time I didn't...
So here it goes, I used to have a WP blog version 1.5.2. I tried to directly upgrade it to version 2.2.1. I made a backup of my WP directory. After my 2 first failed upgrade tries, I recovered my blog (with original version). But I tried once more to upload the new files and make a last attempt to upgrade. But it failed again, and now after cleaning my WP directory and having copied the backup files, I can't recover my blog. Instead, WP invites me for a new installation. Even though my database is still in place, under phpmyadmin, I can see my wp_etc... tables.

Does anybody know how I could bypass the installation and recover my original version?
    thx for your time.

I made a backup of my WP directory.

That's never enough. The most important thing would have been to backup your database - all your content is stored there (posts, Pages, comments, settings).
Do you have a backup of your database from before the upgrade trial?
[from files you might only need your custom theme, if any, and you uploads folder, if you have pictures]

Now, if your database structure has been updated=changed during the upgrade trials, and you don't have a backup of the 1.5.x database... you can't really go back to that earlier version.

I found what went wrong! I had changed the prefix in file wp-config.php, I remember now so I changed it back and I recovered my dear blog! I knew the database hadn't been changed...
So I'll try to upgrade to version 2.0 first, and then 2.1 and 2.2... But not right now, some other time, may be!
    Thanks a lot anyway.
