• I’m looking to start my first ever WordPress blog – I looked at an introductory YouTube video, and it all looks fairly easy to set up, and extremely flexible too.

Almost too flexible, as I really don’t know where to start with the huge number of themes to choose from. So perhaps some kind person can recommend something simple for me to start with?

What I have in mind is a fairly basic blog, where I would enter a post every few days, mostly with several pictures attached. My main theme would be computer graphics, so it would probably be very handy to be able to use keywords or some similar mechanism to group posts by project

If it matters, I tend to like using a black background. Also as a graphics type person, I’ll very probably want to replace banner images and so forth with my own.

I figure that if I start with something broadly appropriate I’ll learn enough from working with that to make in informed choice a little bit later.

So, any recommendations for a suitableth3eme that’s easy for a beginner to work with?

    Thanks,
    Nick

  • Why not start with the Twenty Ten theme? It comes with an optional dark (black) skin and allows you to upload your own custom header image.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will give it a go!

Twenty Ten is a good basic theme to learn the ins & outs, however it is a fixed width theme, not responsive (mobile friendly).
If you do want a responsive theme Twenty Twelve is installed with WordPress.
