  • First thing to understand is that you’re probably not going to find an all-in-one solution for anything you want to do with WordPress.

Many plugins are built with a singular purpose in mind. Theme My Login, for example, pretty much just allows you to customize the WordPress login/registration page. Nothing more.

Anyway, email newsletters are tricky. It’s recommended to not send emails from your web server, mainly because web hosts don’t like it and it can look like spam. A service like MailChimp is nice to start with, because they have a free tier.

However, you’ll have to keep up with current subscribers through the MailChimp dashboard, not WordPress.

There are some WordPress integration plugins for it so users could sign up on your WordPress site though.

MailPoet is a self-hosted solution that might be worth looking into, but I’d highly recommend sending the actual email with something like Amazon SES and not through your web server.

You’ll also need a form plugin. Ninja Forms is a good free choice.

For the members only area, you’d need a membership plugin. Justin Tadlock’s Members is a nice simple choice, but may require some coding knowledge to customize it to your liking. If you want to collect a (recurring) payment for ongoing access, look into Paid Memberships Pro.

All the plugins I mentioned are free and available on

    Good luck. 🙂

Thank you for your comprehensive reply.
Normally, I try use a product and find my way around it but WordPress seems a bit more tricky so I think I will have to put aside some time and watch some tutorial videos to get a grasp of the basics. Unfortunately, I thought I had an idea of what I was doing but the more I do, the more confused I become.
Thanks for your support! I’ll take a look at the products you have suggested.
