Hello– we’ve used your plugin for a long time but recently had an issue.

After updating from version 1.25.6 to 1.25.8 we started seeing WooCommerce error messages on product pages and the cart for “Needs ZIP for (US) shipping” and “Needs STATE for (US) shipping” (something like that).

Downgrading to version 1.25.6 fixed the issue for us. Any thoughts?

    The exact error message is:

A ZIP is required for United States (US).
A State is required for United States (US).

And it compounds and repeats over-and-over. And when I downgrade, it has trouble connecting to Jetpack.

    Kevin,

Could you please send me a copy of your site’s system status report? You can find it under WooCommerce > Status in the dashboard. Click “Get system report” and then the “Copy for support” button. Once you’ve done that, paste it into your reply.

One thing you might try is a conflict test, just to be sure no other plugins/themes are interfering with Shipping & Tax. The best way to determine this is to:

    • Temporarily switch your theme to Storefront
    • Disable all plugins except for WooCommerce and Shipping & Tax
    • Repeat the action that is causing the problem

If you’re not seeing the same problem after completing the conflict test, then you know the problem was with the plugins and/or theme you deactivated. To figure out which plugin is causing the problem, reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each, until you find the one causing conflict.

You can find a more detailed explanation on how to do a conflict test here.

Let us know what you find, thanks! 🙂

    Hi Kevin,

I was also able to reproduce this.
I created a ticket for the team to investigate. You can follow it here: https://github.com/Automattic/woocommerce-services/issues/2362

We are currently scheduled for a release today, but we won’t be able to include a fix there.

Can you please confirm what shipping methods you have enabled at checkout, and if any of them are implemented by WooCommerce Shipping? (e.g.: “USPS (WooCommerce Shipping)” or “Canada Post (WooCommerce Shipping)”)

Thanks for pointing this out and for your patience!

We use Flat Rate for local delivery, USPS, and the Local Pickup Plus plugin. USPS is implemented by WooCommerce Shipping. Local Pickup Plus is not configured through the Shipping Zones.

Also– we had to downgrade to avoid this error and allow customers to purchase orders. However, since downgrading it can no longer connect to our Jetpack account and now our USPS shipping option is gone.

If we can’t fix the error messages in the current version, can you at least help me get the older version working with Jetpack again?

    Thanks!!

So far, it appears I’m able to update from version 1.25.6 to 1.25.7 without the “A ZIP is required for United States (US)” error. So– maybe the issue is only in version 1.25.8?

However, even with updating to version 1.25.7, I’m still having trouble connecting to Jetpack. It seems to connect with 1.25.8, but then I have the “ZIP is required” error again.

    Thanks!

hi @kevinvess Thanks for the details. I have passed this along to our team and keep an eye on the fix in a future release!

    Hey @kevinvess,

    Thanks for the details!
Apologies for the delay, we have been discussing the best course of action.

We have a fix in place on the plugin for the error messaging displayed upon adding a product to the cart.
We halted the release process to include the fix. We are targeting the middle of next week for a new release of the plugin, with a fix for the messaging. This will allow us to do some further testing.

In the meantime, there’s a WooCommerce setting that we think will help with your case.
Can you please go to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping > Shipping Options and enable “Hide shipping costs until an address is entered”? When this option is checked then these errors would not be shown until the customer enters their address.

    I hope this helps!

Thanks for your patience, stay safe!

Thank you for being so responsive on this issue, I greatly appreciate it.

Unfortunately, I can’t enable the “Hide shipping costs until an address is entered” option. We had to disable it to allow the Local Pickup Plus shipping option to be available without entering a billing address.

I really just need you to release a new version with a fix to these errors regardless of whether that option is checked. The error should not be shown at all or only after the customer has entered their billing address and they’re trying to checkout with USPS shipping.

Is there an ETA on releasing a new version with a fix for this?

    Thanks!

    Hi Kevin,

Our plan is to release a new version of the plugin (with a fix for this) next week. We are targeting Tuesday (or Wednesday, depending on the timezone).
That date will allow the team to further test all the changes.

    Thanks again for your patience!

    Hi Kevin,

The team worked released version 1.25.9, which should mitigate the issue and not display the error message on product pages, only displaying it in cart/checkout pages.

Let us know if this works better for you!

    Francesco
