    I just switched my theme and everything seems to be working fine, EXCEPT my blog no longer displays any posts on the front page.

    It displays the header and nothing below. I tried adding a new post, to see if that would jump start things, but it didn’t work. I checked my Reading settings. It’s still set to display my last 10 posts.

    Not sure what’s up. I’ve searched the forums here and find that most threads on missing front pages are about pages where nothing loads at all (404 error). What am I not understanding?

    The theme I upgraded to is Semiologic, which has CMS functionality. It probably treats the front or home page differently than other themes, and I just don’t understand what I need to do. I had to bother the guy who created the theme several times already, as I had trouble with the upload of the files.

    Can anyone help me figure this out? Otherwise the theme seems to be working fine (ie the old posts are all there and searchable).

    Thanks.

  • I have been running Semiologic for a few months now. After working perfectly, I suddenly began having the same problem last night. I have finally trouble-shooted the problem down to the “Smart Link” plug-in that comes bundled with Semiologic. Try deactivating that plug-in and see if that doesn’t solve your problem.

    I am going to alert Denis of the problem and link him to your post.

    Thanks B,

    The front page posts are showing up now (after deactivating the Smart Link plugin, as you advised).

    Thank you so much. I’ll keep an eye on this thread in case any update comes our way.

    One weirdness remains — the links I had set up for my right column (on my old kubrick theme) are not showing up anywhere on the new Semiologic home page. They’re all still there if I look in the Manage Links section of my Admin Panel (and “Visible” is set to “Yes”), but they aren’t displaying.

    Instead, the right-hand column only displays the Semiologic calendar, a section called Syndicate (with links for RSS feeds), my Categories links, and my Archives links.

    I can’t figure out what’s going on.

    This smart link poblem has occurred once already. Would oyu mind sending me a dump of your database to help me investigate and troubleshoot? email to denis at semiologic dot com.

    dogra – Sounds like you need to activate the “Link Tile” plug-in and then make sure the appropriate call appears in your column template (it should as it’s part of the standard theme templates).

    Denis – I have a planned databased backup this week. I’ll be sure to send the files along.

    BWatts — Thanks again. I activated the Link Tile plug-in and they showed up. You’ve really helped me get rolling.

    Some of the terminology is new to me (okay, a lot of it). When you say “make sure the appropriate call appears in your column template,” what does that mean? Are you refering to a piece of code in the template? As you conjectured, I didn’t actually need to do that. Just trying to understand some of the issues here. I haven’t poked around in any of the code yet.

    Denis – I will try to do that this weekend.

    Yeah, I’m referring to the code…specifically, this call for the Links:

    if ( function_exists(‘sem_display_links’) )
    sem_display_links();

    You’ll understand a bit more once you start looking through the template files. I’m an absolutely html/css newbie, but I’ve caught on pretty quickly and managed to personalize my blog quite a bit.

    You’ve been a huge help. I was just overanxious to get my page looking like it had before the switch, now I see that on the plug-ins page there are links to a simple FAQ for various plug-ins, as well as a link to WP-Support on the subject.

    I also peeked at some of the template files, and they don’t look as complicated as I initially thought. Still, a lot to absorb in the coming days….

    Just took a glance at your blog; it looks great! Keep on truckin’.
