You would have to edit the theme’s .php files, which is usually a bad idea.
Changes to the theme’s files will be overwritten during future theme updates. So you would either have to re-apply your changes after every update, or simply stop updating the theme (which is also a bad idea).
Podcast works with the “post” post type.
If your plugin of choice creates a custom post type for some reason, then you would have to consult the documentation for the plugin and their support resources. This issue has probably been addressed before by other users of other themes too.
This is not a bug in the theme.

I completely understand it is not a bug in the theme, which is a wonderful thing. If I find a solution through Podlove I will reply here for other people in my situation.
