  • Just a small thing I’ve been in doubt about.
I run WP1.3a4 since I like the page feature (‘like’ as in ‘I need’) but wonder if it is advisable to, when using alpha releases, always use a recent nightly build.
The version I use yields absolutely no problems – for me! No bugs, errors, nothing. All my favourite plug-ins work just fine (I don’t use that many though ;). But what about security?
Is it advisable to, for security reasons, upgrade to a more recent nightly build from time to time even if this means that bugs are introduced that I didn’t come accross before (which I suppose is always possible with nightlies)?
Opinions on this would be much appreciated.

Some would say yes, and some would say no. Nightly Builds are highly unstable. Where as one build may give you new features and better stability, another may destroy your entire site. It really is a critical judgment call.

I don’t think that “extra security” plays much of a part at this stage in the Alphas, unless something is found that had previously gone undetected. Your biggest concerns when using Alphas are covered by macmanx’s comments above.
