• Hi all,

I’ve been receiving a lot of empty comments through a PHP form on my site and it’s caused my CPU usage to go beyond my host’s allocated limit. The admin area of my site is also loading very slowly as a result.

I’ve removed my email address from the PHP forms, but the spam keeps coming – I know it’s my form as it uses the formatting I made.

The comments come from random areas of my site such as http://greencastleparish.com/wordpress/wp-admin/index.php and I seem to receive them when I’m moving been sections of the admin area.

Here is a sample of my error log for today so far:

Sep 02, 11:03:44 PHP Warning: preg_match(): Compilation failed: nothing to repeat at offset 1 in /home/www/greencastleparish.com/wordpress/wp-includes/class-wp.php on line 231

This has been happening within the last month or so.

Here is a page with one of my forms

I’d really appreciate any help, this has left me very concerned and stressed out.

Thanks for the reply, Akismet tells me it blocked 2 spam attacks in August but that’s all.

The last spam comment came from http://greencastleparish.com/wordpress/wp-admin/admin.php?page=akismet-key-config – I had just checked my Akismet plugin (as I said in my previous post)

I can’t fill in your contact-us form at all; it does not respond to me (though I can check the “I am not a robot” checkbox.

What plugin are you using for your forms? It looks to me like you might be rolling your own. Have you considered using a form plugin from the WordPress library?

I also see some reference to “sumome”, so if they’re tied into your contact system, you may want to post question in their support area.

I also note a bunch of errors on the site:

It won’t fill in for me, though it does on the mobile version.

It’s a self-made PHP form I made on a previous website that did not use WordPress and I’d like to keep it as I can’t seem to get the red prompts to function any other way, is it possible with a plugin (and keep the CSS style)?

Here is a form that functions, you can see the red prompts if you click ‘Submit’ without filling anything in.

I don’t understand what you mean by ‘surnome’.

Are the errors connected to this issue?

I will remove the forms altogether after I receive a reply to this and see how that leaves me.

    Cheers!

Incidentally, I use the very same form on this site and never had any problems there.
