    Hi,

Firstly, I should explain that I have created a custom role based on the ‘editor’ role with some added capabilities. They lack most of the permissions that an admin would have, but I am guessing that the admin alert is dependant on a user having a particular capability rather than just being a user with the ‘admin’ role.

Does anyone know what Wordfence counts as an admin user so I can tweak my capabilities to reduce the alerts I’m receiving.

    Many thanks,

    Mark

  • Hi Mark,
If you are using a certain plugin to create this custom role, may I know which one?
Also, do you mean that you are receiving alerts related to this option “Alert me when someone with administrator access signs in” with non-admin users? Are you sure you don’t have “Alert me when a non-admin user signs in” option checked?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I’m using the Members plugin by Justin Tadlock to create the custom role.

The role is called ‘Owner’ and is a copy of the Editor role with some added capabilities.

I’ve checked the user account and they are definitely an ‘Owner’ and not an ‘Administrator’.

“Alert me when someone with administrator access signs in” is ticked
“Alert me when a non-admin user signs in” is not ticked

These alerts only started a couple of months ago, so I assumed it was an update that changed how users were identified as administrators by basing this on a specific capability.

I have a similar setup on a number of websites and I can recreate the same issue on those websites.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hi Mark,
We use “manage_network” capability to check for super admin user on WordPress Network sites, and “manage_options” to check for admin users on regular WordPress sites. Could any of these be one of the added capabilities you adjusted?

    Thanks.

    Thanks,

That would appear to be the case. I’ll see what I can do to resolve.

    Thanks,

    Mark
