Recaptcha issue on first attempt

Hi there,

I configured my plugin to work with Google Recaptcha V3

I have the following pages enabled for my recaptcha plugin:
- Login form
- Registration form
- Lost Password form
- Comment form
- Buddypress registration form

Unfortunately, when I started to test the form for the first time, I was given the recaptcha error every time for about 15 minutes. On each error, when I clicked “try again”, and re-submit the form, I got a succesfull submission. Some time later, I did not get the error anymore. I tried other devices and was also succesful.

Still worrying a bit about this. Is this expected behaviour? Does the key take some time or something? What I am trying to figure out is if this will possibly happen to other users as well?

Hi,

I really don’t know 🙁 I haven’t seen this intermittent behavior so far. When the captcha verification is submitted some code on your server makes a request to Google reCAPTCHA’s server and verifies the captcha. Normally that works instantly after the key is created in your Google reCAPTCHA account so maybe there was some connection issue between your server and Google? I don’t have any other suggestion that to monitor it and see if it occurs again and if it does check the server error log to see if there are any errors showing up there.

Hi there,

Monitoring would be hard, as no error logs appear. Is there a way to enable logging?

Would you be so kind to do a check from your end? Just to put my mind at ease? You dont have to activate your account and can even use faux info, just wanting to make sure my site works.

Well, I can’t register as I’m seeing this message “To protect our website from spam and abuse, we have implemented a system that verifies registrations. In your case, a suspicious login attempt has been detected and that is why you see this page”. I did not attempt to login before or register. I tried without a VPN as well as with a VPN from multiple countries and it always shows that message 🙁

Thanks. I registered and see no issues so IDK 🙁 Since it’s intermittent maybe it didn’t come up now.

Thanks for that! Any way to register or log when recaptcha gives error ? So I can monitor this?

Unfortunately no, we don’t have a log for that. I don’t think we could reliably make one to catch all the failure events so it might be even more misleading if we were to only catch some of them 🙁

Andrew will reach out regarding the recaptcha for the contact form in the widget bundle. There seems to be some conflict.
