Rearrange items in header and footer of posts

I just relaunched my blog(s) but I don’t like how the theme I chose puts the list of categories right between the title and the content of each post. I think it breaks up the reading, so I’d rather put the category list and the link to the comments in the footer of the post. These items that I’d like to move are all in a div called “subhead.” I installed the plugin “custom headers and footers” and I think I should be able to modify it with that but I don’t know what code to use since I’m just learning css and php.
