It would be great if you had simple instructions on how to install and get this plugin working properly. Most of us likely have Toast XML sitemaps before using this. It seems that might be interfering with this plugin but it’s not clear. All you have written is generically, “If you’ve had another sitemap… remove from root file”.

Please make it simple for simpletons like me with step by step instructions?

    Thanks!

Hi Darryl, if you use Yoast SEO but have already deactivated the Yoast XML sitemap, then you will still get a warning from the Yoast SEO plugin. You can simply ignore the message (click the ignore link) and carry on.

There is a button “Check for conflicts” on the Settings > XML Sitemap admin page. Try that and see if you get any messages about conflicting plugins or files. Follow the instructions given there.

Ahh, I see! Yes, it works fine after disabling the Yoast XML sitemap.

    Thank you Rolf!

The thing I don’t understand is what exactly to submit to Google News under the Sections. I selected New Section > Feed but don’t know what to enter here.

    Please help? Thanks.

I can’t get this working. Here’s my settings in Google Publisher:

    Sections

    1. Printable DirecTV Stream Channel Lineup Guide | Alphabetic TV Channels List 2022
    Anyone
    https://printtvchannels.com/sitemap-news.xml
    ^ Articles
Last updated Apr 6, 2022 at 4:02 PM

“There are no articles in this section”

    ======================

The link I’m hoping to submit to Google News is: https://printtvchannels.com/product/printable-directv-stream-channel-lineup-guide/ and is showing in my XML sitemap.

    Please help? 🙂
    Thanks!

Hi, on the admin page Settings > Google News there are links to help pages.

But in general: The news sitemap is for Google Search Console, not for Publisher Center. When entered in Google Search Console, it will give you valuable information about index status and errors related to your news publications.

In the Publisher Center you can create different news sections (I recommend based on your site categories) and for each one either enter that category RSS feeds or category archive page, but this is not dependant on the sitemap.

Ok, thanks for clarifying. Perhaps I had the wrong idea but can’t I use your plugin’s XML sitemap to also create RSS feeds? I apologize for being totally green on this topic and will read up on your suggested links. However, I think other amateurs like myself would also like to know (bc I downloaded your plugin thinking that was how to fully get set up on Google News). 🙂

    Ty!

Dedicated RSS feeds for Google News is being considered for a future release. For now, you will need to use the normal WordPress feeds:
    1. go to Settings > Reading and set the option “For each post in a feed, include” to “Full text”.
    2. decide which categories on your site will serve as news sections for Google News
    3. set these sections up in Publisher Center and configure for each category, the corresponding feed URL.

To know the feed URL, take for example the category https://printtvchannels.com/product-category/directv-channel-guides/ on your site. The feed URL is the category URL followed by feed/ so in this case https://printtvchannels.com/product-category/directv-channel-guides/feed/

Ok, thank you. I figured out the last step (re: how submit RSS feed):

-In Google Publisher, add a section corresponding to a product category page
-Add that category’s URL PLUS the “/rss” suffix (e.g. mysite.com/product-category/rss)
-This can be confirmed by pasting that URL into a browser where all the content can be seen in the feed
-For example, for my Rogers Ignite site category, the RSS can be viewed at: https://printtvchannels.com/product-category/rogers-ignite-tv-channel-guide-pdf/rss/)

    Hope this helps others.

Yes I did! Is that your plugin’s work?

No, that’s WordPress own feed url.
