 * I found someone else’s blog who was using wordpress and really liked the looked.
   I’ve been using blogger but have little control over there and thought I would
   come here. I asked a while back if I would have more control here and got given
   the answer that yes I would.
 * The only problem is that I am totally clueless right about now.
 * I have tried to follow your easy steps (your three easy steps, find a host, install
   wordpress…) but I’m getting nowhere.
 * I bought myself a domain name. I went over to HOSTICAN and registered and bought
   my 2 year subsciption. I have tried to install wordpress 3 times.
 * Now I don’t know what happens next. They (domain name people) told me three days
   and it would be working but if I put it in nothing is there and it’s a search
   error. It’s nearly been four days.
 * So do I need to wait until my domain name is up and running before I can install
   wordpress because so far I’ve had NO LUCK getting anything to run.
 * How will I know my domain name is up and running? What will be there? Who do
   I ask for help here? You guys, since I don’t have wordpress even installed yet?
   HostIcan…is this their problem? The domain company I got the domain name off??
   I am SO LOST!
 * Someone please help me. I’ve been using computer’s for 7 years now. I consider
   myself a medium sort of computer savvy person, but my husband is a whizz and
   even he has no idea what we need to do here. It’s been driving us crazy for a
   couple days now and I’m affraid I’ve wasted $100 on something that is not going
   to work. All because I wanted more fonts to chose from!!
 * WordPress boasts about being easy!
 * Thanks
 * Boo

 * You need php and mysql not just a domain name. Can you hosting company provide
   that for you?

 * > WordPress boasts about being easy!
 * Ok, I have to say this because it’s really starting to irritate me when people
   come here (there’s been several lately) and say the “it’s SUPPOSED to be easy
   or it’s SUPPOSED to take 5 minutes!” thing. It’s IS easy. It will take only 5
   minutes… if you **READ**. If you haven’t done this sort of thing before you can’t
   just jump right in and expect to know how to do it. You have to read the documentation
   samboll posted.
 * [@boo_77](https://wordpress.org/support/users/boo_77/)
 * From what you said it sounds like you only purchased a domain? No hosting? You
   said you tried to install 3 times but you don’t say what the problem or error
   it is you’re having that aborts the install. Please explain the exact problem
   you’re having and give your website address.

 * Ah, missed the part about HostICan. I checked and they do have PHP and Mysql.
   When did you purchase this domain and hosting? Domains need 24-72 hours to propagate.
   Did you create a database and put that database info into the wp-config file?
   Make sure all the files are uploaded to the correct place? What happens when
   you go to [http://www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin/install.php](http://www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin/install.php)?

 * Hey Boo, you didn’t waste the money. You’ll be able to use the account.
 * This is basically what you’re in for. Read it quickly, then take a look at the
   links above and see if it starts to make sense.
 * Who did you buy your domain from? Did you open up your own registrar account (
   e.g. a GoDaddy account) where you bought the domain, or did HostIcan buy the
   domain for you?
 * If you bought the domain and then signed up for hosting with your host (the registrar/
   domain lease is a separate thing from hosting, but often, the hosts will bundle
   that step into a package they have), you will need to point your new domain from
   the registrar’s servers to you new host’s servers so that browsers will know
   which server to ask for yourdomain.com files… This is called setting the NAMESERVER
   information in case you have related questions. Spreading the change of address
   information is what takes bit of time. Sometimes, a few minutes for your area,
   but a few days for the rest of the world…
 * Ok, so who controls your domain?
 * Your host would have sent you instructions on how to work with your new account
   while all the DNS paint is drying. Maybe, an IP address to use with your FTP
   program etc. Do you have that information? Don’t post it here! I’m just asking
   if you have it!
 * With the IP numbers for you host, and the login information they gave you for
   the hosting account, you will be able to create the database you need plus the
   database user and database password for use by WP later.
 * Once the database is created, and you have not only created a database user but
   also assigned that user to work on that database (!), you will be ready to install
   WP.
 * In your hosting account, there will be many folders used by many applications.
   One of them is going to be the folder you put files (like WP files) that you
   want to be accessible via a browser. Your welcome information from your host
   will talk about it.
 * What is the name of that folder on your host (public_html? httpdocs? web_file?
   etc). Let’s say it’s called public_html.
 * Unzip the WP install files onto your home PC. You will want to FTP all the files
   inside the wordpress folder, the files inside, to the public_html folder so that
   it looks like ‘/public_html/readme.txt’ etc.
    I suggest trying to FTP just one
   little file first to see if it gets put in the right place so it’s less to clean
   up if it’s the wrong place. Urrgh, with DNS ‘not working’ yet there can be some
   quirks with trying to log in…
 * Once all of those files are there, you’ll be able to start the installation.
 * The links Samboll showed you are great.
 * The hangups you’re going to run into are frustrating nut probably minor.
 * If it’s all too much and you can get your money back from your host if you cancel,
   you may want to pay $10 a year to use your new domain (which you’ve paid for
   already) on wordpress.com
 * They’ll handle the files. You handle the content.
 * What is the name of your domain?
    I can install it for you if you email me… Take
   a look at [my profile](http://wordpress.org/support/profile/512293) for the username@mywebsite
   part of the email… I have username as my organization (which I’ll delete later)

 * Wow thank you for all of your replies and help.
 * We are still a bit lost but slowly getting there. For information asked for here,
   I bought my domain (discoverboo.com) at crazy domain’s (likely an Australian
   company) and I have hosting through hostIcan specifically because wordpress said
   it was compatible.
 * Anyway, what happened last night was that we installed cuteftp and followed some
   directions which we found at hostIcan. This was before we had my cpanel control
   panel/front page thing set up and didn’t know what to do next. But we made a
   mistake and to try and reverse it we deleted all of the files out of our hosting
   account so now even though we know HOW to install wordpress (through fantastico)
   it wont do it.
 * So my next question is, does anyone know how to restore it back to default so
   that fantastico can do it’s thing?? I do have a support ticket but because I
   am in Australia they tend to reply in the middle of the night.
 * Right now I know how to get to my cpanel thing and I’ve also managed to set up
   the cpanel X thing so I can see all of my files and such. But if I try to get
   fantastico to install wordpress this is what it tell’s me. (OK, the file error
   has changed to this…)
 *  Install WordPress (2/3)
 * The installation can not be completed:
 * – You cannot install more than one script in the root directory of a domain.
 * Click on the browser’s Back button to fix reported errors.
 * **It seems I may have upset thisisedie. I understand that it must be frustrating
   having people come to the SUPPORT forums to get HELP. I’ve not been here for
   very long and would appreciate it if you didn’t take those frustrations out on
   me. **

 * p.s
 * If I put [http://www.discoverboo.com/wp-admin/install.php](http://www.discoverboo.com/wp-admin/install.php)
   in this is what comes up. As I said, we don’t have wordpress figured out yet.
 * The webpage cannot be found
    HTTP 404 Most likely causes: There might be a typing
   error in the address. If you clicked on a link, it may be out of date.
 *  What you can try:
    Retype the address.
 * Go back to the previous page.
 * Go to and look for the information you want.
 *  More information
 * This error (HTTP 404 Not Found) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect
   to the website, but the page you wanted was not found. It’s possible that the
   webpage is temporarily unavailable. Alternatively, the website might have changed
   or removed the webpage.
 * For more information about HTTP errors, see Help.
 * Musnake, I think the things you asked re:names of folder’s, is more advanced
   than the step I am currently trying to get past.

 * There was probably a file called fantastico_fileslist.txt in the public_html
   folder.
 * It’s contents were something like:
 *     ```
       wp-admin
       wp-content
       wp-includes
       data.sql
       fantversion.php
       index.php
       license.txt
       readme.html
       wp-app.php
       wp-atom.php
       wp-blog-header.php
       wp-comments-post.php
       wp-commentsrss2.php
       wp-config-sample.php
       wp-config.php
       wp-cron.php
       wp-feed.php
       wp-links-opml.php
       wp-load.php
       wp-login.php
       wp-mail.php
       wp-pass.php
       wp-rdf.php
       wp-register.php
       wp-rss.php
       wp-rss2.php
       wp-settings.php
       wp-trackback.php
       xmlrpc.php
       ```
 * Stick that in and have F remove the installation…
 * I have to run to the airport…
 * be back in a about an hour and a half…
 * It sounds like one of two possibilities –
 * 1. You had installed WordPress through some install tool, then manually deleted
   the files. The tool still thinks that you have WordPress installed, so won’t
   let you overwrite it.
 * 2. Your hosting is configured such that (for some reason) you can’t have multiple
   scripts (php files) in your root directory. (Seems unlikely).
 * There’s probably a way to force an install that should overcome problem 1. Either
   that or you’d need to find out how to reset your hosting to the start (your hosting
   company can probably help) and start over. If it’s somehow option 2, then you
   could either try installing the blog into a sub-directory, or asking your host
   why it’s set up that way.
 * Ahh, given what musnake said above, it’s most likely option (1) then.
 * UPDATE:
 * My husband has got things moving now. He just got to pointing my domain name
   at hostIcan’s website. He said that will take three days.
 * Does that mean that we wont be able to work on the website itself until it’s
   propogated (if you get what I mean)??
 * Atlanta traffic idiots. They’re late and apparently it’s _my_ problem. Go to
   bed half and hour early and you won’t be half and hour late…
 * Ok, where were we..
 * Install wordpress to the root of your domain if you’re using Fantastico (instead
   of a sub-folder called blog or worse, wordpress). Just keep it simple for now.
 * If you can figure out how to create the empty database and database user, you
   could enjoy the famous 5-minute install…
 * If you deleted files below public_html, files related to your cpanel etc you’ll
   have to get your host to recreate/rebuild the account as there are many invisible
   links etc that are needed in a shared environment (that you want)…
 * Keep us informed…
 * How do I contact you?? You said that you could install this for me if I emailed
   you. We’re having so many issues and don’t seem to be getting anywhere.
 * Right now fantastico is saying that wordpress is fully installed. But then if
   I click on my wp-admin thing it comes up with an error message.
 * I just don’t know what we’re doing wrong. Could you please help us??
