• I am trying to install wordpress on my website: finhrrecruitment.co.za
I have done it the same way once before and never had a problem like this before.

I have unpacked the wordpress file into my FTP and when I put http://www.finhrrecruitment.co.za/wp-login it sends a request asking me to change wp-config-sample.php to wp-config.php which I have done.

Then if i try access the site again i get this error:
    Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?
If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

Now I haven’t even gotten the option to open to sign up with a username and password.

My host is useless and keep saying their services and databases are up and running and they have enabled wordpress and php.

So what am I missing here????

  • I see your site is working fine http://finhrrecruitment.co.za/
You need to use http://www.finhrrecruitment.co.za/wp-admin to log in

    Hi LaurenLiebe,
I think you may have forgotten to add your website details into your wp-config.php file….. go to your CPanel, & then go to “file folders”. Inside your (root) folder you should see about 3 or 4 folders, (including wp-admin, wp-content & wp-includes) and underneath those are some files including your wp-config.php. Open your wp-config.php file (select either “edit” or “code-edit” option) and then fill in the details. You’ll need to fill in the following:

    Your Database name
    Your database username
    Your database password

Plus you should also obtain & fill in the 8 salt keys (they are added for security reasons, and they are located further down the page….. the information of where to get them is actually listed within the wp-config.php so it’s quite easy once you have done it a few times…) Hope this helped,
    Cheers, Karen

    Hi Karen

Thank you so much for the help.

You were close, but for some reason the wp-config.php file kept deleting the information when uploaded so there was nothing to be read. (However your suggestion caused me to read more into the file!)

    All sorted now!

    Regards,
    Lauren
