Sounded so promising, no obvious way to integrate into pages… pointless.

You may want to reconsider your review. I believe you missed the FAQ section http://wordpress.org/plugins/gift-certificates-lite/faq/, you need to place the shortcode [giftcertificateslite] in a page or post.
