I installed WP and in a folder I called “wp” on the server where our existing (old) site (www.libforall.org) currently resides. So my new WP site is on the same server as the old site, but located at http://www.libforall.org/wp/ . NOTE that my web host is Yahoo (set up 15+ years ago by someone else). Now I want to publish my new WP website so that when someone types our http://www.libforall.org URL, they will now see the new WP website, and not the old site. I have SEARCHED WP for the steps needed to publish my new site which is already sitting out there on the server, but all I am finding is steps for moving a local site to a web server. When I originally tried to install WP on the Yahoo server, it would not allow me to install it on the root, so that’s why I created the “wp” folder and installed it there. So, of course, all of my permalinks now have “wp” in their address. How do I get my new site published so that it appears when you type our existing URL http://www.libforall.org?

  • Hello,
Just to be clear, you want to redirect all the visitors that enter libforall.org to libforall.org/wp/?

If that’s the case you can check all the information in this link.

Check all that information, it is very detailed.

    Hope it helps!

    Hi,

No, I currently have all my wordpress files in a subfolder called wp, but I instead want everything on the root. I want to do the opposite of what the instructions in the link tell me to do.

What I really want to do is hire someone to figure this out for me and get my site up and running at the correct URL, rather than at the URL with “wp” appended to it.

    Carolyn

Do you have FTP access to the server?

You can try “Method II (With URL change)”, but instead of moving the WordPress from the root to a folder, do it the other way, it’s the same steps.
