Support » Developing with WordPress » Reading a DBF file in a WordPress Site

  • Hi Everyone,

    I’m developing a plugin that uses AJAX to upload and read a specific type of DBF file and uses it to fill out information in forms (then deletes the file afterwards).

    However, when i go to use dbase_open I get a critical wordpress error. Here is the command i used:

    $db = dbase_open($directory . '/' . $dbf, 0);

    Here is the response I received.
    {"response":"Opening database at (path)\/wp-content\/uploads\/dbf_files\/dbf-example.dbf"}<p>There has been a critical error on your website.</p><p><a href="https://wordpress.org/support/article/debugging-in-wordpress/">Learn more about debugging in WordPress.</a></p>

    I basically just want to read the info once and then discard it. Is there something I’m missing or an easier way to do that?

    Thanks!

    You should check your PHP error log; it will contain the actual error that occurred.

    If I had to guess, it will say that the dbase_open function does not exist. The function is provided by the dbase PHP extension, which is not built into most PHP installations.
