At this moment, Yoast SEO only detects the content from the description field and not from the short description field. However, these following to checks are currently done by Yoast SEO.
- It will output a singular check for length in the short product description area. Specifically, it looks at word count and considers 0 as having no words, 1-19 as short, 20-49 as good, and 50+ as long.
- If you added a product gallery the plugin will check it for alt-attributes.
A feature request is currently open in our development repository for this which you can find here.
On the other hand, if you have a custom field that you want to include in Yoast SEO for the content analysis checks, you’ll need to follow the guide here.
In regards to the bullet points or other types of list items, Yoast SEO can detect the list items and shows the SEO score based on this.

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
I just checked the guide you linked too and whilst that works for post, page and in fact all my other custom post types it does not have the “Add custom fields to page analysis” field in the Products type. How can I do this for products?
Hi,
We apologize. The feature is only available with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin. The free plugin does not have it.
If interested, you can learn more about the plugin including how to purchase it here: https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/.

I have yoast premium and the woocommerce extension for it – it does not have the “Add custom fields to page analysis” field in the Products type with both these enabled.
