Hi there, I would like help using the read more tag. Nothing happens when I try to add <!--more--> to my blog posts so I went to look in index.php to see if there was something I could change.

Turns out there's nothing in there about reading more (I have a custom theme), but maybe I could add some code there to make it work? Anyone know where I would put it? Thanks in advance!

    the 'read-more' should work automically when you use the_content() in the index template;
    unless you use the_content('') ...

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/the_content

what is the full code of index.php of yur custom theme?

    Nothing happens

can you describe that in more detail?

    Hi

The read more link will come along with post/page content.
    First option:
In admin post editor you can use more tag option in the content.

    Second option :
you can use the_excerpt() function to read more link for the content. just you need to open your functins.php file in your theme then you can change the limit of the charcters in the excerpt function.

so the read more link will come automatically.

    Thanks

Hi, thanks very much for your replies.

    I'm on directorypress 7.0.9.

    Here is my index.php http://pastebin.com/embed_js.php?i=kdqgSVWn

There seems to be no mention of the_content?

When I insert the more tag (making sure it's not inside another tag) it doesn't appear in the updated post on the site.

    Thanks again,
    Emily

Have you checked with the folks that you bought it from?
