"Read More" link missing from post excerpt on homepage

Hello,

I recently followed the steps described in a support post to add a post excerpt to the post stream on the blog page (http://wordpress.org/support/topic/original-template-has-no-excerpt-next-to-thumbnail-posts?replies=7).

This solution worked great, though I would like to have a “Read More” link at the end of the excerpt to jump to the full post. Is there a way to add this functional to the above listed solution?
