Due to several requests for testimonials to act more like blog posts, the dual-function “read more” to the testimonial or a page was split into two. It now only appears when there is actually more to read (the “abbreviated” setting”). Manual excerpts will not show the “read more”.
A separate “read more” to another page has been moved to appear after the list of testimonials. I plan to add some more style options for that soon.
The thinking was that manual excerpts work well in slideshows or short lists so only a single “read more” to a full page of testimonials was necessary.
So you would like the option to show a “read more” to the full testimonial with manual excerpts too?

Thanks for your response. Certainly we would like to retain the “read more” as was available previously with manual excerpts.
We typically use a manual excerpt in a page in a masonry layout with the “read more” option available to access the full “testimonial”. (The strong testimonial plugin is used for managing other activities)
Where we do not use the manual excerpt (in typical testimonials) the […] (read more link) does not work.
Key question is – what is required to achieve the previously working “read more” functionality which we were very happy with?

It may have worked well for you but for those not using manual excerpts, the read-more was sometimes unnecessary and therefore bad UI. I’m trying to accomodate the majority of use cases without an overwhelming number of settings.
I will have an update ready in a day or two with another read-more for manual excerpts.
If the […] (read more link) does not display something like “Read more” or “Continue reading” then your theme does not set that by default so you’ll need to use the “custom link text” setting.
You might prefer the “No Quotes” template for your Businesses for Sale page.

Thanks for the recommendation on the “No Quotes” template. Have also updated the “read more” link setting to custom link text which is now working for standard (non-excerpt) testimonials.

I’d like to second @seddonj’s request for “read more” links with manual excerpts. In my experience, quite frequently in a testimonial the “juicy” bit that’s worth highlighting in an excerpt is not at the beginning. I like to pull out the most appropriate teaser text for my excerpt, and have a “read more” link, but can’t do that with this change.
I’m loving your plugin. It’s a joy to use.

The content options in version 2.11.4 are now
- entire content
- automatic excerpt
- manual excerpt
For posts without a manual excerpt, the automatic excerpt will be used.
To add a “Read more” to manual excerpts, select the “both automatic and manual excerpts” option.
