    Hi,

Does anyone know how to contact users directly who download a plugin you built on WooCommerce?

We launched a WooCommerce Plugin called Breezepay, and as part of the installation process we need to have contact with the people that download the plugin. We’ve rectified the situation to make it that they reach out to us, but there were 40 downloads before we updated our install instructions. We can’t find any way to reach out to them, and anyone’s advice would be appreciated.

I see that the plugin is hosted at wordpress.org. The download numbers are not necessarily active users. These are also bots and external archives that collect the ZIP files of the plugins. Trying to reach them is a bit more effort than it would be worth. I would rather recommend designing the setup in such a way that it becomes clear after installation that you need to be contacted. Then they will do it automatically. It’s much better than instructions that hardly anyone reads (keyword: user guidance).

Thanks for this advice. So rather than only have it in the install instructions on the plugin download page, we set up a page within the plugin that active users will have to see during set up?

Yes, that’s how I do it with my plugins.
