  • I’m have an issue selecting which category should be defined as the primary category for a post when more than one categories are selected for a post.

For example, I have have the categories “UGA” and “NCAAF” and I choose both categories for a post, I would like “UGA” to be the primary category, or the first listed, followed by NCAAF. I cannot set UGA as a parent with NCAAF as a childe due the the fact that NCAAF can be associated with other categories as well. For example I may choose “GT” and “NCAAF” as categories together. In this example, again, I would want “GT” to come first.

Why do I want this you may ask? My theme has many features that depend on the category. I do not want to sacrifice the ability for a post to appear under multiple categories however, but it is important to be able to define a primary category. Beside post titles, for example, the category is shown as a tag. It always picks the “first” category. This appears to be alphabetical. Again, I would like to be able to choose the primary category as described in the above UGA/NCAAF scenario.

I’ve tried various plug-ins to no avail. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks WP community!

  • I am using canonical urls, and the post will appear under all categorys as expected.

However, the first category that is chosen is always the alphabetically first one. I’d like to be able to control this or force certain categories to always be last.
