• I am running an old version of WP and old version of theme and I don’t get the message to update. I found out that it was previously installed MANUALLY by Godaddy. I want to update everything because I don’t want the same problem of not getting an update message on my dashboard. I need to streamline the process and have access to c-panel. There is a bunch of PHP files at the root level and when I downloaded WordPress I can’t just replace what’s there because the file structure is much different and messy on my end so I would need specifics as to where to put the files. How should i tackle this as i am an amateur? Do I keep the same database?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

What happens if you go to dashboard -> updates and just click the “update” button?

    (Backup first, of course.)

    WordPress Updates
Last checked on August 27, 2018 at 12:00 pm. Check Again

I’ve already been through this process on another WP forum with no luck. Hosting provider said it was because it is manually installed. Anyhow I need to start over and fix the previous web designers work.

Check wp-config.php. Are there any DEFINEs there that reference updates?

Saying it was “manually installed” is meaningless. πŸ™

Please install the health check plugin and report back its findings from the debug tab: https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/

Well, as soon as I activated, it stated that I don’t have a default theme installed to enable it to check the installed themes. What does that mean? What default theme should I install? I do have Twenty Sixteen installed but not activated. Isn’t that a default theme? I don’t want to go any further until I hear back from you because it did offer to install one but I’m scared it will activate.

You don’t have an active theme? Your site says it’s using Enfold. You should also have one of the twenty* themes installed, but not active. Is twentysixteen installed?

    Thread Starter iacino

    (@iacino)

Right but I don’t have a DEFAULT theme installed.

I can’t disable troubleshooting mode and I lost the theme and everything!!!

I did not ask you to set troubleshooting mode! I asked for the output of the debug tab.

Logout and log back in and you should be OK.

    (@iacino)

Oh forget it. I had to log out and log back in. Scary plugin.

    Thread Starter iacino

    (@iacino)

Oh, I don’t see a debug tab. As soon as I activated it started troubleshooting.

Oh, I don’t remember the documentation instructing to go to the Dashboard for this…sorry. Basically the results told me nothing new. I DO NOT have the latest theme version plugin installed as it states. I can’t update it or WP.

I don’t see any thing there that should be breaking things.

Try a manual update to see if that gets you back into the swing of things.
